IFS-informed coaching

    focus

We begin by getting curious about what you’d life to focus on and what you’d like to be different.

You may be facing a decision or transition, wanting something more from your work or life, finding yourself caught in a familiar pattern, or simply sensing that you’re ready for change.

Together we explore where you are now, where you’d like to be, and what matters most to you. Through an IFS lens, we also become curious about the different parts of you involved — perhaps one part is ready to move forward while another has doubts, holds back or wants to keep things just as they are.

Rather than pushing past these different voices, we listen to what they have to say. This often brings greater clarity about what you really want and what may be getting in the way.

    explore

Coaching creates space to step back from the immediacy of life and see yourself and your situation from a wider perspective.

We explore the patterns, assumptions and ways of responding that shape how you approach your work, relationships and life. Some may serve you well; others may once have been useful but now limit what feels possible.

IFS offers a particularly compassionate way of doing this. Instead of seeing resistance, self-doubt, perfectionism, over-responsibility or other familiar patterns as problems to overcome, we become curious about the parts of you behind them and what they are trying to achieve.

As you understand yourself more fully, you have more choice about how you respond — rather than automatically being led by old habits or familiar reactions.

    expand

As there is more space between you and your habitual ways of responding, new possibilities begin to emerge.

You may find yourself able to see a situation differently, have a conversation you’ve been avoiding, make a clearer decision, take a risk, set a boundary, change direction or trust something in yourself that you’ve previously held back.

The aim isn’t to become a different person. It’s to have greater access to the qualities already within you — curiosity, creativity, courage, confidence, perspective and compassion — so that more of you is available to meet whatever life brings.

This is what IFS calls Self-leadership.

    integrate

As your internal sense of possibility expands, so does your capacity to make the changes you want in your life — not by forcing them, but because something inside you has genuinely shifted.

Together we notice what’s changing and explore how you want to take that into your everyday world — into your choices, relationships, work and the way you respond to yourself.

We may agree experiments, practices or actions between sessions, not as a rigid list of things you should do, but as opportunities to try something different and discover what happens.

Over time, the intention is for change to feel less like something you have to make yourself do and more like a natural expression of who you are becoming — with greater freedom, choice and capacity to lead your life from the inside out.

before we agree to work together

We begin with an informal conversation — a discovery call.

This is a chance to explore what's bringing you to coaching, get to know each other a little, and see whether this way of working feels like a good fit for you. There’s no charge and absolutely no obligation to take things further.

the coaching sessions

I work online, via Zoom, so distance isn’t an issue. I do my best to adapt to different time zones. Sessions usually run for 90 minutes, and most clients choose to meet with me every two weeks.

length of the work

The length of our work together varies from person to person. It depends on what you bring, what you're hoping for, and what unfolds along the way. We'll pause regularly to reflect on how things are going, and decide together what you need next. Some people work with me for just a few sessions; others for many months.

testimonial

“My work is very busy with lots of demands.  I had a tendency to say ‘yes’ every time anyone asked me for something, taking the burden on myself to find the time to do it (I’m an accountable person and take agreements seriously).  This led to a rising anxiety in me.

The coaching enabled me to have the insight, awareness and capacity to change my approach.  Now I speak up, share my vision and my challenges.  I communicate the issues with others so the goal is shared and 99% of the time we find an alternative solution or perspective.

I’m now far more relaxed, clearer and more creative.”
